Receive up to £3,000 for each apprentice that you place!

If you hire an apprentice or place a new employee onto an apprenticeship programme, the government will pay you up to £3,000 for doing so. This incentive is in place to drive apprenticeship recruitment, with the government acknowledging the vital role apprentices play in addressing skills shortages across all sectors.

How does it work?

If you’re looking upskill or train your current staff through apprenticeship, the Government will pay you an incentive of £3,000 if the apprentice is aged 16 to 18. If the apprentice is aged 19 to 24 payment will be £2,000 and any apprentice over the age of 25 will receive £1,500

The incentive will be paid only for employees that has an employment contract start date between 1st August 2020 and 31st March 2021

The incentive is paid in 2 instalments directly to the business bank account through the Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS): one after 90 days, and one after 365 days. To claim the full payment, the apprentice must be in post for the minimum of a year.

How do I apply?

You can apply for an incentive payment after you have added new apprentices to your Digital Apprenticeship Services account.

You can also apply for the payment if you recruit apprentices who have been made redundant as long as they're new to your organisation and were recruited between 01 August 2020 and 31 March 2021.
